EVs join new car drop in April
New EVs were down in most categories during April.
Reports from the Motor Industry Association (MIA) show electric vehicles were generally down in private and non-private passenger, SUV, and light commercial vehicle sectors, although up somewhat in the heavy commercial category – perhaps reflecting more EVs available in the latter.
“Petrol hybrid” sales also ran against the downward trend in some categories, and diesel, along with diesel hybrids, rose in several sectors such as light and heavy commercial categories.
MIA’s reports indicate April was a lean month for new vehicle sales, especially petrol-powered vehicles, perhaps reflecting the economic situation.
That’s apart from petrol hybrid and petrol electric hybrid new vehicles, showing a rise in the non-private SUV category of nearly 60% (684 to 1091) in monthly comparisons and from 2762 year-to-date (YTD) to 3925 – up 42.1%.
“Petrol electric hybrids” went from 10 to 34 in the same sector and from 110 YTD to 154, while in the private SUV category they went from 18 to 34 in monthly comparisons and 74 to 113 YTD, while “petrol hybrids” in that category climbed from 637 to 817 and 2636 YTD to 3569.
Increased fuel prices may reflect in May’s figures.
April new and used car arrivals were down, says AutoTalk.
