Mustang Mach-E led battery electric sales in October 2024
The Ford Mustang Mach-E was New Zealand’s top-selling battery electric vehicle in October 2024 with 143 units registered
It was followed by the BYD Atto 3 (59 units), Tesla Model Y (49 units), MG 4 (35 units) and Volkswagen ID.5 (34 units).
The best-selling new plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) last month were the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross (124 units), Skoda Superb (34), BYD Sealion 6 (28), Mitsubishi Outlander (26) and Cupra Formentor (10).
The Motor Industry Association (MIA) says October was the second-best month this year for new vehicle sales (12,571) – just 78 units behind January’s.
MIA chief executive Aimee Wiley says rental registrations grew in October while the shift from light passenger vehicles (LPVs) to light commercial vehicles (LCVs) signals a growing preference for vehicles offering flexibility and versatility, particularly for mixed-use applications.
She says October 2024 data reveals “distinct patterns” reflecting the market’s evolving dynamics, including the industry adapting to changing consumer preferences and economic factors.
Hybrids continued to sell well in October 2024, the top five including the Toyota RAV4 (1354 units), Toyota Corolla Cross (215 units), Ford Puma (183), Toyota Yaris Cross (180), and Toyota Corolla (176).
