EVs part of EEA Conference

Energy and resources minister Megan Woods will address more than 1000 delegates and visitors expected at the Electricity Engineers’ Association (EEA) Conference in Auckland on June 25-27.

The premier engineering/technical event for the New Zealand electricity supply industry will hear about electric vehicles and charging, along with smart energy, emerging technologies and what the electricity industry will look like in 2050.

International speakers are included in the event at the SkyCity Convention Centre, which also has about 117 trade stands featuring the latest services and products.

One exhibitor, TransNet NZ, is hosting delegates at its Auckland site on June 25 where a display of EVs is expected to include an Envirowaste rubbish truck, Jaguar I-Pace, old and new Nissan Leafs, Hyundai Ioniq and Kona vehicles, a Tesla and a Kia Niro.

Other exhibitors include ABB, Northpower, Schneider Electric and YHI (NZ).

EVs are part of several conference sessions, including one on June 26 looking at EV charging and another on the impact of new technology such as EVs.

Using surplus electricity to produce green hydrogen is also on the programme.

One session considers “lessons from Australia”, especially around that country’s renewables boom and what it means for New Zealand.

The conference covers innovation, technology, a customer centric focus, distributed generation, transport energy, big data, asset management and regulatory models.

Awards will also be presented at the conference, including those for engineering excellence, workplace and public safety, professional development and the Young Engineer of the Year.
