Expert pushes Government to use electric vehicles

The Government is being urged to increase its fleet of electric cars by a US expert.

Energy sector leader Andres Carvallo told Radio NZ equipping the Government fleet with electric vehicles would help New Zealand meet its commitments on climate change under the Paris Agreement.

Carvallo says changing the Government’s fleet could cut New Zealand’s transport sector emissions by about 25%.

He will address an energy conference in Wellington next week.

Carvallo says his own company in Austin, Texas, levied customers $US5 per month for unlimited charging of their EVs.
