FCA may use Tesla equipment

Hints have come that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) could eventually use Tesla components.

FCA chief executive Mike Manley notes Tesla may well provide batteries and drivetrains for future FCA electric cars, Teslarati reports.

Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas enquired about the automaker’s relationship with Tesla in the future, and Manley said a large-scale electrification initiative will happen especially if FCA’s planned merger with Groupe PSA proceeds.

Manley says batteries and drivetrains will likely be among components FCA will be buying from Tesla, along with the possibility of it acquiring a “skateboard” platform which could be applied to its brands.

Tesla chief executive officer Elon Musk also appears optimistic about Tesla selling its components to other OEMs, saying such initiatives are in line with the electric car maker’s mission.

FCA brands include Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Fiat Professional, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati, and Ram Trucks.

Groupe PSA makes cars and motorbikes under Peugeot, Citroën, DS, Opel and Vauxhall.
