The response to Auckland’s first eBike Expo has delighted project manager Mary-anne Stuart-William from organiser Icon Conference and Event Management.

More than 2000 people attended the weekend event at The Cloud on Auckland’s waterfront.

“It also exceeded expectations in terms of the number of people buying e-bikes there,” she says.

Visitor feedback suggests most found it ideal to check out many e-bike retailers in one place and be able to research the brands and styles before deciding what to buy, Stuart-William says.

She says more e-bikes sold on the Sunday, probably because many visitors viewed the displays and were able to test their choices on a special track before returning the next day to verify their purchases.

Many e-bikes sold for around an average $3500, with show specials being offered, although one customer paid about $12,000.

A wide variety of e-bikes from cargo bikes and foldables to off-roaders were available, with public interest across the range, Stuart-William says.

Exhibitors were pleased with the response and the expo is planned again next year.

Electric scooters offered by some of the e-bike retailers were also popular, some purchased for Christmas presents.

Stuart-Williams says many older people were not only testing e-bikes on the track but e-scooters too.

Some tried electric skateboards and Segway Ninebot self-balancing and hands-free electric scooters as well.
