Fisker electric SUV due 2021
An all-electric SUV will be introduced in the second half of 2021 by Californian-based Fisker Inc.
The SUV priced below US$40,000 with an 80kWh plus battery providing about 480km range will be the first of three new mass market EVs from the company established by renowned automotive designer Henrik Fisker.
The unnamed SUV will be launched in the US with global markets to follow and expected to include Australia and New Zealand.
Early details include a four-wheel drive option with two electric motors (one front, one rear), a small, centre high-mounted radar behind glass replacing a traditional grill, lower body aerodynamic features, a large heads-up display and intuitive user interface controlling some of the latest emerging in-vehicle technologies, and optional 22-inch wheels.
More information will be released closer to the launch.
Fisker says the previously unveiled Fisker EMotion luxury electric sedan will be introduced to the market when Fisker Solid-State Battery technology capable of 800km range on a quick, single charge is ready, possibly in 2021 or later after the affordable SUV becomes available.
Final pricing and a drivable SUV prototype are likely to be revealed by the end of 2019.
Fisker is set to sell direct to consumers. A nationwide concierge service model is also in development for maintenance work.
The company will begin accepting early deposits closer to the start of production and says more information on timelines will come later.
Fisker Inc. is finalising selection of a facility in the US to produce the electric SUV.
“Our team set out on a mission to create an affordable EV that’s more exciting and emotion-stirring than what the market has been offering,” Fisker says.
“We’re now excited to be introducing a vehicle that truly reinvents the SUV.”
He sees the future success of EVs relying on creating an emotional connection with the consumer – in addition to longer range and more practicality for the wider market.
