Geely’s EV gets e-axle geared for most electric cars
Geely Automobile’s new EV Geometry C will be driven by Nidec’s 150kW E-Axle model Ni150Ex, part of a range it says can power about 98% of all electric passenger vehicles.
The Geometry C SUV has just been announced by Geely, a subsidiary of China-based global automobile manufacturer Zhejiang Geely Holding Group that also owns the Volvo Car Corporation.
Geely, which produced more than 1.3 million vehicles in 2019 and also established an EV-development joint venture with Daimler AG, says it aims to actively contribute to the EV market.
The Geometry C is the second model from the company’s high-end EV brand Geometry and features an in-house developed proprietary battery cooling system, a heat pump air conditioning system and lightweight vehicle body technology.
It has more than 500km range and includes an automated parking system and intelligent network technology with 5G capabilities.

Nidec’s E-Axle Ni150Ex is based on the company’s first mass-produced e-axle traction motor system made from April 2019.
It has developed a compact motor that, combined with the next generation inverter, contributes to vehicle performance, low power-consumption and low noise and vibration.
Weighing 91kg, the e-axle can achieve 150kW power and 3100Nm torque, while reducing the Geometry C’s weight.
Development and optimisation of the Geometry model started in May 2019 and wrapped up in a year.
Nidec has also developed four other models – Ni200Ex (200kW), Ni100Ex (100kW), Ni70Ex (70kW) and Ni50Ex (50kW).
Cars that use a front and rear dual motor configuration can be supplied with up to 400kW by combining two Nidec E-Axles.
Nidec says it is capable of supplying traction motor systems that can power about 98% of all electric passenger vehicles, and the company aims for 35% global share in the EV traction motor market by 2030.
