Genesis launches tool to help households cut energy bills
Genesis has partnered with global carbon management fintech Cogo to launch the Go Electric Calculator, a tool designed to show households how switching to electric can save money, reduce emissions and future-proof their lifestyle.
It is the first time a New Zealand energy provider has rolled out Cogo’s electrification solution, which provides personalised recommendations on energy upgrades for homes and vehicles.
With the Go Electric Calculator, customers can receive tailored suggestions based on their property, vehicle and energy use. The tool also shows potential annual savings from switching appliances, adding solar panels or upgrading to an EV, as well as upfront costs and connections to trusted local installers and dealers.
Research by Rewiring Aotearoa found consumers could save up to $3000 a year in energy costs by switching to an EV when it is time for a new car and replacing old gas appliances with electric alternatives.
Genesis chief customer officer Stephen England-Hall says: “We’ve made it our mission at Genesis to support customers to make the transition to electrifying their lives. The Go Electric Calculator is a fantastic, easy-to-use tool that quickly reveals how you can save on your overall energy bill and help the planet.”
The partnership supports Genesis’ Gen35 strategy, which focuses on helping customers move to more renewable forms of energy.
Cogo founder and chief executive Ben Gleisner says: “Electrifying our homes and vehicles is one of the most impactful ways New Zealanders can lower costs and reduce their carbon footprint. By working with Genesis, we’re making these decisions simpler, faster and more accessible – helping households take action today while preparing for tomorrow.”
The Go Electric Calculator is now available on the Genesis website for New Zealand households.
