GM’s electric ute due 2021, Tesla ute reveal shortly

General Motors (GM) plans to have its electric ute for sale in the US in 2021, probably around September and October.

That’s confirmed by GM chair and chief executive officer Mary Barra at an investor conference, noting the demand for utes in the US and globally.

GM earlier revealed plans to build the ute at its Detroit-Hamtramck plant, Electrek reports.

Other electric utes are coming from Ford, Rivian and Tesla.

Tesla is revealing its “cybertruck” ute on November 22 at about 2.30pm Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) and 4.30pm New Zealand daylight saving time on YouTube and Tesla’s website.

Ford has earlier announced plans to introduce an electric Ford F150 ute by 2022 and the company has invested in EV start-up Rivian which aims to have its own R1T ute ready in late 2020.
