A ‘Green COVID Stimulus’ is sought from the government during an Extinction Rebellion gathering on May 24 outside Labour Party electorate offices.

While thanking MPs for an effective COVID-19 response, the group will also push for similar leadership in addressing climate change and associated ecological crises.

The government is not moving quickly to extensive public transport using renewable energy, it says.

Extinction Rebellion says COVID-19 recovery spending announced has included some significant spending to benefit the environment, but delivered little to mitigate climate change.

“The decisions made now will have lasting consequences. They will determine whether this century is one of ongoing climate induced crises, or one in which we and our children’s children can thrive, safely,” Extinction Rebellion spokesperson Caril Cowan says.

Labour MPs have been invited to meet participants to receive plants as gifts, and to discuss possibilities for a green COVID-19 recovery, the action heeding alert level 2 guidelines.
