Hyundai and Hydrospider plan industrial hydrogen ecosystem

Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility (HHM) has partnered with Hydrospider to promote a green hydrogen ecosystem in Switzerland and European countries.

A special ceremony was held by the two in Switzerland to introduce a new business model for green mobility with fuel cell electric trucks and a plan for the necessary refuelling infrastructure.

HHM, the joint venture between Hyundai Motor Company and H2 Energy, and Hydrospider, a joint venture of H2Energy, Alpiq and Linde, had the ceremony at Alpiq’s hydroelectric power plant in Gösgen where the first 2MW electrolysis plant in Switzerland will start producing green hydrogen from the end of 2019.

At the event, Hyundai also gave detailed information about the its next-generation Hyundai H2 Xcient fuel cell electric (FCEV) truck and unveiled a video showing Xcient on the road.

As a truck supplier, Hyundai intends entering the European market for eco-friendly heavy-duty vehicles.

HHM plans to bring in 1600 FCEV heavy-duty trucks by 2025, offering them in a specially designed green ecosystem to H2 Mobility Switzerland Association members as well as to other transport and logistics companies promoting hydrogen mobility in Switzerland.

The first 50 FCEV trucks are expected to be delivering to Switzerland in 2020.

Expansion to other European countries is also planned, with a strong focus in establishing solutions and partner networks for Germany, the Netherlands, Austria and Norway.

Meanwhile, the global demand for eco-friendly commercial vehicles is expected to increase as environmentally-friendly government policies are enforced around the world.

The Hyundai H2 XCIENT fuel cell truck has been developed according to European regulations. It features a new 190kW hydrogen fuel cell system with two 95kW fuel cell stacks connected in parallel.

It has about 400km range and carries seven large tanks storing almost 35kg of hydrogen.

Hyundai and Cummins also recently announced their cooperation on evaluating development and commercialisation of electric and fuel cell powertrains.
