Investigation into Wellington EV fire

Peugeot New Zealand is investigating a fire which reportedly destroyed a Peugeot e-208 GT EV in Wellington early on December 19.

“We are aware of the incident and are conducting a thorough investigation,” says Peugeot and Citroen commercial manager Arek Zywot, adding that “no further comment” is forthcoming at this stage.

In a statement issued to Stuff, a Peugeot New Zealand spokesperson confirms the investigation, with Peugeot’s parent company Stellantis involved.

Stuff adds the fire appeared to have happened while the EV was parked on a street.

The EV was launched for the New Zealand market in late 2021.
