ITS NZ road pricing event planned

Is road pricing the magic bullet for congestion?

That’s the topic for an Intelligent Transport Systems New Zealand public event on December 10, which follows an earlier members’ workshop on setting a strategy.

The New Zealand Initiative’s senior research fellow Patrick Carvalho and a panel of experts will discuss road pricing as a vital solution to congestion, addressing transport behaviour change and the conundrum of future transport revenues.

Following the publication The Price is Right, ITS NZ has invited Dr Carvahlo to speak at the event, the panel including Beca and ITS NZ president Stephen Hewett, AA infrastructure principal advisor Barney Irvine and Trip Convergence co-founder and chief executive officer Paul Minett.

ITS NZ says it has significant implications for New Zealand’s transport landscape, in particular regulators, communications and technology providers and fleet operators.

Transport industry representatives and members of the public are invited to attend the function at the Beca Auditorium, 21 Pitt Street, Auckland, from 3.30pm to 6pm on December 10.

Members are free with non-members charged $25.

The strategy workshop is from 12pm-3.30pm at the same venue and will help guide ITS NZ in helping solve New Zealand’s transport challenges by educating, developing knowledge and skills, helping to drive research and innovation, contributing to policy and government decisions, and more.

ITS NZ aims to promote the development and adoption of effective transport solutions that make our transport network safer, more efficient and sustainable and now encompasses technological innovation for cities and transport, new vehicles and energy sources, app-based mobility solutions, and faster communications and data processing capabilities.
