Jaguar electric I-Pace offers 480km range

Jaguar’s electric I-Pace has been launched globally offering twin motors and a 90kWh battery providing up to 480km of range.

The five-seater SUV’s motors have a combined 294kW and 696Nm delivering 0-100km/h in 4.8 seconds.

The I-Pace S version is priced from A$119,000 plus on road costs in Australia, while pricing hasn’t yet been determined in New Zealand where the SUV is due in early 2019.

Rapid public charging from 0-80% is in just 40 minutes, with 15-minutes charge giving 100km range. Home charging with an AC wall box (7kW) will achieve 0-80% in just over 10 hours.

A suite of smart range-optimising technologies includes a battery pre-conditioning system; when plugged in the I-Pace will automatically raise (or lower) the temperature of its battery to maximise range ahead of driving away.

“With zero tailpipe emissions, no CO2 and no particulates, it moves us dramatically closer to our vision of a clean, safe and sustainable future,” Jaguar Land Rover chief executive officer Dr Ralf Speth says.

Smart Settings use artificial intelligence algorithms to tailor I-Pace to individual driver preferences, wireless over-the-air updates and EV navigation to ensure range-optimised routing.

It comes with an eight-year battery warranty (160,000km limit and 70% state of health), while the whole vehicle warranty is three-years/100,000km.

While a mid-sized SUV, interior space is comparable to large SUVs. In the rear, legroom is 890mm and there’s a 10.5-litre central storage compartment. In the rear, tablet and laptop stowage is beneath the seats, while the rear luggage compartment offers a 656-litre capacity – and 1453-litres with seats folded flat.

A Touch Pro Duo infotainment system uses a combination of touchscreens, capacitive sensors and tactile physical controls.

I-Pace will be able to ask an Alexa enabled device for information held in the Jaguar InControl Remote app. For example: Is my car locked? What is the charging level? Do I have enough range to get to work?

New recycling partnerships and second life energy storage trials are planned for batteries.

The I-Pace is available to order now in both New Zealand and Australia.
