Jaguar Land Rover trials recycling process in EV
Jaguar Land Rover is trialling a recycling process which converts plastic waste into premium grade material.
This new material could feature on future vehicles. Not all plastic can be recycled for use in automotive applications, but Jaguar Land Rover will work in conjunction with chemical company BASF to upcycle domestic waste plastic into a new high-quality material.
The waste plastic ultimately produces a new premium grade that replicates the quality and performance of ‘virgin’ plastics, which can be tempered and coloured to make dashboards and exterior surfaces in Jaguar and Land Rover models.

Jaguar Land Rover and BASF are testing this pilot phase material in an electric Jaguar I-Pace prototype front-end carrier.
“Plastics are vital to car manufacturing and have proven benefits during their use phase, however, plastic waste remains a major global challenge,” Jaguar Land Rover senior sustainability manager Chris Brown.
“Solving this issue requires innovation and joined-up thinking between regulators, manufacturers and suppliers.”

Jaguar Land Rover is committed to addressing the challenge of waste plastic and meeting its Destination Zero vision.
Jaguar Land Rover has already met its 2020 target for zero waste to landfill for UK operations.
The company’s focus is on achieving zero emissions, zero accidents and zero congestion.
