Lamborghini launching all-electric in late 2020s

Italian supercar manufacturer Lamborghini launches an all-electric car in the second half of the decade.

Owned by Volkswagen, Lamborghini has set out a roadmap to the decarbonisation of its future models which will see a transition to hybrids during the next 10 years with an EV also planned.

“Lamborghini’s electrification plan is a newly-plotted course, necessary in the context of a radically-changing world, where we want to make our contribution by continuing to reduce environmental impact through concrete projects,” Winkelmann says.

The roadmap comprises three phases – the first a continuation of Lamborghini’s internal combustion engine (ICE) models for 2021 to 2022, then a “hybrid transition” by the start of 2025.

“In 2023 Lamborghini will launch its first hybrid series production car, and by the end of 2024 the entire range will be electrified,” the company says.

It aims to reduce product CO2 emissions by 50% by the beginning of 2025.

The hybrid transition will have more than 1.5 billion euros allocated over four years.

Lamborghini says the second part of the decade will be dedicated to full-electric vehicles with a fourth all-electric model also planned then.

Throughout the product electrification process, Lamborghini will focus continually on identifying technologies and solutions that guarantee top performance and driving dynamics in keeping with the marque’s tradition, it adds.

In the wake of steady sales growth and a seven-fold increase in turnover over the last 15 years, Lamborghini recently unveiled the Sián, which launched its electrification journey as the first Lamborghini featuring hybrid technology.

It says lightweight carbon fibre materials will be crucial in compensating for weight due to electrification.
