Leading The Charge tour kicks off

Enthusiastic EV drivers hit the road as part of the Leading The Charge tour.

A huge variety of electric vehicles, from Teslas to BMWs, are taking part in the drive from Bluff to Cape Reinga to promote the uptake of EVs in New Zealand.

EV owner Martin Kane, who is taking part in the South Island part of the tour, says there is plenty of energy and enthusiasm amongst the group.

“It’s great to meet other EV enthusiasts from different parts of the South Island.”

Charging along the way has been easy, with stops in Invercargill, Gore, Balclutha and Dunedin, he says.
“It’s a thrill to see the charging network extending.”

The convoy will stop at cities and towns along the way, holding public events so people can look at the cars and ask questions.

Today, the tour stops in Dunedin at the Octagon between noon and 2pm, before heading to north to Oamaru and other stops tomorrow morning.

Kane says there has been plenty of interest shown already, with locals in Balclutha and Gore coming out for a look.
