Lime linked to death

A 59-year-old man has died following an incident in central Auckland involving a Lime electric scooter on June 24.

Police confirm the incident happened on a footpath beside Fanshawe Street near the intersection with Bradnor Lane shortly before 10pm.

It is the first fatal incident involving Lime in New Zealand.

Lime is aware of the incident and is “devastated” by the man’s death, Stuff

reports.

Police say the man suffered a medical event and that his death has been referred to the coroner.

Lime scooters were temporarily suspended from Auckland and Dunedin roads in February due to safety concerns but returned in early March after a petition garnered 4000 signatures of support.
