Lime introduces MaaS platform to serve trips under 8km

Lime is expanding micro mobility access globally through what it says is a first-of-its-kind mobility as a service (MaaS) platform enabling customers to book third party e-scooters and e-bikes.

It aims to be a one-stop shop through Lime Platform, where customers can use other shared e-mobility services through Lime’s app.

Lime will partner with Wheels which provides a pedal-less e-bike, Wheels’ fleet available in the Lime app starting later this year in various US cities, with additional markets and partners to follow.

“This next step in Lime’s evolution allows us to partner with outstanding operators offering a range of electric vehicle types, just as people are demanding more transportation options to make short trips around their cities,” Lime says.

“This is particularly important as people rethink their rides to adjust to our changed world following initial COVID-19 restrictions.”

Lime says the new MaaS platform will help it reach a goal of replacing car trips of under eight kilometres, saving people money, making a dent in eliminating climate-changing pollutants, and helping cities become more people-friendly with streets designed for human-scale transportation.

“The platform will eventually offer a wide range of vehicle types to meet the needs of any trip distance or preference,” Lime says.

“With more vehicles accessible in one place, anyone looking for a bike, scooter or other light electric vehicle won’t need to download five or six different apps based on what they find on the street.”

Lime also has Jump brand e-bikes and e-scooters it acquired from Uber.
