Longer range for new Ioniq

Hyundai Ioniq 2020 (1)

The newly arrived 2020 Hyundai Ioniq extends its range to 311km, offering refreshed styling and upgraded standard equipment.

A larger 38.3kWh battery and 100kW motor combination boosts the range by up to 33% on the 2019 Ioniq Electric’s 204km and enhances performance – giving 295Nm peak torque, also offering 100kW DC fast charging capability.

The liquid-cooled lithium-ion polymer battery replaces the previous 28kWh air-cooled battery.

The new range continues to offer customers the choice of a pure EV, plug-in hybrid (PHEV) or hybrid in a five-door fastback.

New SmartSense active safety features such as high beam assist and driver attention warning with leading vehicle departure alert are included, along with a 10.25-inch touchscreen multimedia system standard across the range incorporating Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity.

Redesigned front and rear lighting, front grilles, and new alloy wheels are among styling revisions.

The PHEV continues to offer the ability for electric-only trips up to 63km from its overnight fast-charge capable 8.9kWh li-ion polymer battery.

“Hyundai continues to demonstrate its eco vehicle leadership with the 2020 Ioniq,” Hyundai Motor Company Australia chief executive officer JW Lee says.

The 37% greater battery capacity means DC fast charging times have increased. Using a commercial 100kW DC fast charging station the Ioniq Electric can be charged from empty up to 80% in 54 minutes (57 minutes when connected to a 50kW fast charging station).

The capacity of the on-board AC charger has been increased to 7.2kW, which allows the 38.3kWh high-voltage battery to be recharged in as little as six hours five minutes when connected to a charging station of equal or higher capacity.

If a charging station is unavailable, the standard in-cable control box (ICCB) in the boot of every Ioniq Electric allows the battery to be fully charged via any household 240-volt AC outlet in about 17 hours 30 minutes.
