Lordstown Motors’ electric Endurance ute production starts
Electric light duty vehicle manufacturer Lordstown Motors has started commercial production of its Endurance full-size pickup truck (ute), and provided a business update.
It says the first two commercial release production Endurances have rolled off the line at the Foxconn EV Ohio plant, part of the first batch of up to 500 saleable vehicles planned.
The Endurance delivers up to 321km range and 404kW of power and will be sold from Q4 subject to full homologation testing and required certification, the company says.
US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) confirmation crash testing has been successfully completed for the Endurance, the company adds.
The Endurance is among three semi-finalists in the North American Truck of the Year competition
Lordstown Motors, which focuses on the commercial fleet market, expects to end the third quarter with about US$195 million cash and cash equivalents.
“We will continue to build at a slow rate as we address remaining part pedigree and part availability issues,” says Lordstown chief executive and president Edward Hightower.
“We expect to increase the speed of production into November and December.”
Lordstown aims to deliver about 50 units to customers in 2022 and the remainder of the first batch in the first half of 2023, subject to raising sufficient capital.
“Our cash outlook is better than our previous outlook by approximately US$75 million and we continue to explore opportunities for capital raising alternatives, including in connection with the initial Foxconn JV program and strategic partnerships,” Hightower adds.
