Low-speed EV market expected to boom
The global low-speed electric vehicle market is expected to surge as economies flourish, a report from QY Research suggests.
These are small four-wheel EVs designed for mainly urban use weighing less than 1400kg and having a 32-40km/h top speed.
Otherwise known as Neighbourhood Electric Vehicles, low-speed EVs are said to protect drivers from weather better than a motorcycle, are faster than a bicycle or e-bike, are easy to park and charge, and are cheaper than most cars.
They are usually two-seaters but some can carry more passengers.
China had about four million low-speed EVs by mid-2018, according to the International Energy Agency.
