Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the new GT 4-Door Coupé, featuring three axial flux motors that deliver up to 860 kW (1169 hp) peak power and represent the first use of this technology in a series-production electric vehicle.

The four-door sports car achieves 0–100 km/h acceleration in 2.1 seconds and can recharge more than 460 kilometres of range in 10 minutes with 600 kW charging capability, according to the German manufacturer.

“I’ve driven the new AMG GT 4-Door Coupé myself many times – and it genuinely stands out. It pushes performance to new limits and delivers the emotion our fans expect – now in the electric era,” says Ola Källenius, Chairman of the Board of Management, Mercedes-Benz Group AG.

The vehicle uses axial flux motor technology developed by British specialist YASA, which Mercedes-Benz acquired in July 2021. Two motors are positioned on the rear axle and one at the front, with the system designed to deliver higher continuous power and torque compared to conventional electric motors.

Revolutionary battery technology enables sustained performance

The high-voltage battery combines Formula 1-derived technology with direct cooling of individual cylindrical cells. The 800-volt system uses 2660 cells grouped into 18 modules, with each cell measuring 105mm high and 26mm in diameter.

A high-tech coolant based on electrically non-conductive oil flows around each cell to maintain optimal temperature. The battery concept enables not only high output but also repeatedly available power, coupled with fast energy absorption and high power density.

“With the new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé, we are once again making a strong statement: It is proof of how we are taking performance and endurance to an entirely new level and pushing the boundaries of electric mobility,” says Jörg Burzer, Chief Technology Officer at Mercedes-Benz Group AG.

The charging system achieves more than 800 amperes current and peak charging capacity exceeding 600 kW at appropriate infrastructure. Charging from 10 to 80% state of charge requires 11 minutes.

Two performance variants planned

Mercedes-AMG will offer two powertrains: the GT 63 4-Door Coupé with 860 kW (1169 hp) peak output and the GT 55 4-Door Coupé delivering 600 kW (816 hp). Both models feature the same 106 kWh battery capacity and 600 kW charging capability.

The GT 63 achieves 0–200 km/h acceleration in 6.4 seconds, while the GT 55 requires 8.7 seconds for the same sprint. Both variants offer a top speed of 300 km/h with the optional Driver’s Package.

Advanced features include the AMGFORCE S+ drive programme, which simulates V8 engine characteristics with authentic shift patterns and sound. The system uses more than 1600 sound files to create real-time acoustic interpretation of driving situations.

“The new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé ushers in an entirely new era. It is an absolute high-performance machine, packed with pioneering innovations that enable previously unimaginable driving performance in this segment,” says Michael Schiebe, Chairman of the Management Board of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.

The vehicle incorporates active aerodynamics including AEROKINETICS Venturi Flow plates in the underbody and an active rear diffuser. AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL suspension with semi-active roll stabilisation provides adjustable dynamics between sports car handling and long-distance comfort.

Series production begins in summer 2026 at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Sindelfingen, with axial flux motors manufactured at the Berlin-Marienfelde facility. The production process involves around 100 steps, with 65 processes new to Mercedes-Benz and 35 representing world firsts.

Pricing will be based on comparable predecessor vehicles, though specific figures have not been announced. Customer orders are expected to open in the coming days.
