Milestone for Hyundai Kona Electric
More than 100,000 global sales have been achieved by the Hyundai Kona Electric.
That’s in just over two years since its global launch, with Hyundai aiming to sell 560,000 battery electric vehicles (BEVs) annually by 2025, along with fuel cell models.
Cumulative sales of the Kona Electric reached 103,719 units as of June 30, with sales outside its home market Korea accounting for more than three quarters of that.
New Zealanders have bought more than 600 Kona Electrics.
The EV has been widely lauded for its class-leading driving range (449km), fast-charging capability (80% in 54 minutes), and safety and convenience features.
Its 64kWh battery runs a high efficiency 150kW electric motor producing 395Nm of torque.
Hyundai NZ lists two Kona models, an entry level at $78,990 and the top of the line Elite at $85,990.
The cars carry a three year/100,000km warranty and roadside assistance package and the high-voltage battery has a 10 year/160,000km warranty.
The Kona Electric’s global accolades include best small family car, best EV, affordable EV of the year and The West Australian Green Car of the Year 2019.
