Minister gets chance to drive latest electric technology

Transport minister Gerry Brownlee has had the chance to try some of the latest in car technology while on a trip to the USA.

The NZ Herald reported today that Brownlee had been sceptical about electric cars, until he was given the change to drive the Tesla SP85 in Los Angeles as part of a visit to the Tesla factory.

He was investigating alternative transport options as part of the trip.

He also got the chance to take a ride in Google’s driverless car.

“I’ve been somewhat of a sceptic around electric vehicles,” the NZ Herald quoted Brownlee as saying. “I don’t want to say I’m a total convert but I’ve been incredibly impressed by the technology that I’ve seen.”
