Transport minister Simeon Brown appears to be moving faster than expected on multiple changes to schemes aimed at reducing the average CO2 emissions of vehicles entering the fleet, with the Clean Car Standard (CCS) the next issue for attention.

Still within the National/ACT/NZ First government’s initial 90-day plan period, Brown has overseen the end of the Clean Car Discount (CCD) and then confirmed EVs will pay road user charges (RUC) at the same rate as a diesel vehicle.

Brown confirms he has requested officials to start work on reviewing the CCD’s sister, the Clean Car Standard.
