Mitsubishi focusing on PHEVs and electric kei-cars

Mitsubishi Motors will concentrate on producing plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) and new electric kei-cars (Japanese microcars).
The Japanese company has released essentially a consolidation plan for the next three years but aims to launch an Eclipse Cross PHEV and new EVs in China within the 2020-2021 financial year (FY), with a new Outlander PHEV planned around FY2022.

Mitsubishi will also work with Nissan to study co-developing an EV version of the kei-car, also studying improving its collaboration on autonomous driving, connected vehicles and EVs
Whether any of these new PHEVs and EVs will be seen in New Zealand and Australia isn’t yet known, although Mitsubishi indicates that in strengthening its position in South-East Asia its products for that market will be rolled out to Oceania and some other regions.
Mitsubishi says it will promote joint development with Guangzhou Motor and establish a new research and development centre to ensure China’s strict environmental regulations are met.
A “harsh business environment” globally will see Mitsubishi review and improve its cost structure and sow the seeds for further growth and gradual profit recovery.
