Musk overtakes Bezos becoming world’s richest person

A 4.8% increase in Tesla’s share price has seen co-founder and chief executive Elon Musk overtake Amazon founder Jeff Bezos for top spot on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

Bloomberg says Bezos has held the position on its Billionaires Index since October 2017, but Musk has now surpassed him with an estimated net worth of US$187 billion for his 20% shareholding in Tesla.

The Guardian attributes the growth in Tesla’s share price to the confirmation of the “Blue Senate” which is now controlled by the Democratic Party, which will possibly institute a green agenda to combat climate change and issue tax credits for EVs.

Musk himself was unfazed by the development in his personal wealth status – tweeting: “How strange – Now back to work”.
