Nissan plans more electric vehicles

Nissan plans to introduce four new pure-electric vehicles and its premium brand Infiniti two during the next five years.

The six new EVs are the Japanese automaker’s share of 12 all-electrics from the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance by 2022, Nissan EV engineering and powertrain corporate vice-president Toshihiro Hirai confirms to Automotive News Europe.

It clarifies an earlier announcement from the alliance’s chief executive officer Carlos Ghosn about the planned introduction of the 12 EVs.

Hirai says all six cars will be pure electric.

Nissan recently launched its next generation e-Power hybrid powertrain on its Nissan Note, which uses a small petrol-powered generator to drive the electric motor for the front wheels

It’s expected every Infiniti sold from 2021 will come with either an all-electric powertrain or the e-Power system.
