NRC adopts EVs

Electric vehicles are playing a big part at the Northland Regional Council, which boasts a 10-strong EV fleet.

Regional councillor Justin Blaikie told Stuff it is a mix of seven pure electric vehicles and three plug in hybrids.

And it plans on extending the number of EVs in its 60 vehicle fleet in the future, although not all vehicles in the fleet have appropriate EV options available on the market yet.

Eighty solar panels provide power that helps charge the EVs, cutting about $26,000 from the council’s fuel bill, Blaikie says.

The council has also supported charging stations opening throughout the north over the last four years.
