PAVE-ing the way for AVs
Autonomous vehicle (AV) advocates have formed a coalition to spread the word about driverless vehicle technology.
The Partners for Automated Vehicle Education (PAVE) has been announced at CES 2019 in Las Vegas this month.
It includes automakers, tech companies and other organisations involved in AVs, including Audi, Aurora, Cruise, Daimler, General Motors, Intel, Mobileye, Nvidia, Toyota, Volkswagen, Waymo and Zoox.
PAVE’s main message is that AV tech can transform transportation and make it safer and more sustainable. “Facts are central to PAVE’s mission of helping inform the public and policymakers. While the topic of automated vehicles can seem dauntingly complicated, knowing some basic terminology and learning a little about the key questions for our transportation future can help bring everyone into the conversation.”
It aims to educate the public and policymakers about the potential of automated vehicles with 2018 producing many technology breakthroughs but some difficult times for AV deployment.
PAVE describes itself as “a coalition of partners dedicated to educating policymakers and the public about automated vehicles and the increased safety, mobility and sustainability they can bring”.
“We want to make sure that consumers and policymakers understand what’s real, what’s possible and what is rumour or speculation,” Audi US government affairs head Brad Stertz says, according to TechCrunch.
PAVE has a website and plans educational workshops with policymakers and events around the US for people to experience AVs close-up.
