Pininfarina to become luxury EV maker

Italian design house Pininfarina is set to become a luxury electric car maker.

It’s known for creating beautiful cars for Ferrari, Rolls-Royce, Maserati and Cadillac.

Now the company, owned by Mahindra, plans to launch its hydrogen fuel cell H2 Speed this year, with more electric cars likely.

A luxury EV strategy is in train, Pininfarina chief executive officer Paolo Pininfarina said at the 2018 Geneva International Motor Show.

Pininfarina is developing a modular electric car platform for Chinese start-up Hybrid Kinetic Group.

Four concepts are planned, including the all-electric 2018 Pininfarina HK GT with range extender options.

Further announcements on Pininfarina’s electric car ambitions are expected around April 14.

It’s likely to join the Polestar (Volvo) and Aston Martin Lagonda luxury electric car makers, the latter announcing its Lagonda vision concept at the latest Geneva show.
