PM launches Southern Hemisphere’s biggest all-electric car share offering

The Southern Hemisphere’s biggest deployment of all-electric cars and largest EV car sharing model has been launched by Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern in Christchurch.

Yoogo Share, adopted by the Christchurch City Council, will have a pure EV fleet of 100 cars, 10 hubs and 100 chargers available around the city.

Twelve key businesses with 3000 drivers are already working with Yoogo Share cars. That’s removing 115 internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles from their fleets.

Representatives from all the businesses, including dealerships, were presented with certificates at the launch in the Christchurch Art Gallery

Adern also received a baby stretch-and-grow suit with a “Sharing is Caring” logo from Yoogo Share general manager Kirsten Corson. “Other options were “My Mother Went Into Labour” and “Plug Me In,” she says.

Jacinda is also the name of one of the Yoogo cars, all being named after partners and business representatives.

Membership is now open to private users too.

“It’s a cost-effective alternative to company cars, rentals, taxis and even private ownership,” Yoogo chief executive officer David Jenkinson says.

Businesses and private users can sign up at www.yoogoshare.co.nz and book a vehicle.

Rates are based on the minute, hour or day – whichever is cheapest.

Users can pick up a car at a Yoogo Share hub, drop it back there when finished and plug it in.
