Volvo’s electric luxury performance brand Polestar has announced an international design contest closing July 27.

Dubbed ‘Pure’, the contest seeks a new Polestar that is the purest of designs, one 20 years from now.

“It could be a car. It could be something else,” Polestar says.

“What it has to be is a vision of Polestar’s design evolution in the year 2040, following the Polestar design philosophy.”

That might even open the door for autonomous (pilot-less) flying cars.

Competition winners have travel and accommodation provided by Polestar to see a one-fifth scale model of their concept displayed at the Polestar Design Exhibition in Sweden on November 12 where they will be guests of honour.

Ten professional and 10 student designers shortlisted will receive individual feedback from Polestar Design, followed by a one-on-one coaching session with Polestar designer and Polestar Design Community founder Juan Pablo Bernal.

Five professional and five student designers, chosen from the shortlisted group, will receive digital modelling support from Polestar Design or its affiliates, have their designs displayed during the Polestar Design Exhibition, and have them posted and shared via Polestar’s digital channels.
