Porsche Taycan model range extended

Porsche is launching the fourth variant of its first all-electric sports saloon the Taycan.

The rear-wheel drive Taycan with the option of two battery sizes is expected to start arriving in global dealerships from mid-March.

The new model lines up alongside the Taycan Turbo S, Taycan Turbo and Taycan 4S.

The standard single-deck Performance Battery with 79.2kWh gross capacity while the optional two-deck Performance Battery Plus has 93.4kWh gross capacity, providing up to 431km or 484km range respectively.

Nominal power is 240kW or 280kW respectively, while optional equipment includes optional equipment includes a colour head-up display and an on-board charger with up to 22kW charging capacity.

With Functions on Demand (FoD), Taycan drivers can purchase various additional convenience or assistance functions as required. Alternatively, they are able to book them for a limited period.

Activation online means no workshop visit is needed. Currently, this is possible for the Porsche Intelligent Range Manager (PIRM), Power Steering Plus, Active Lane Keeping Assist and Porsche InnoDrive functions.

The Taycan accelerates to 100km/h in 5.4 seconds, whichever battery is specified, and has a 230km/h top speed.

Maximum charging capacity is 225kW (Performance Battery) or 270kW (Performance Battery Plus), allowing both batteries to be charged from 5% to 80% SoC in 22.5 minutes and providing power for a further 100km after only five minutes.

The fourth Taycan includes new features introduced in other versions at the model year changeover. For instance, the Plug & Charge function enables convenient charging and payments without the need for cards or an app.

LED headlights are standard, as are front comfort seats with eight-way electrical adjustment. The car features two luggage compartments – 84 litres at the front, and up to 407 litres rear.

The Taycan is also the first Porsche model available with an entirely leather-free interior, made from innovative recycled materials.

The drive architecture includes a two-speed transmission.

A central 10.9-inch infotainment display and an optional display for the front passenger are included in the cockpit.

Porsche uses a centrally networked control system for the Taycan chassis. The integrated Porsche 4D Chassis Control analyses and synchronises all chassis systems in real time and an adaptive air suspension with a Smartlift function allows the Taycan to be programmed so that it raises its ride height automatically at certain recurring locations such as road humps or garage driveways.

Porsche delivered just over 20,000 Taycans to customers worldwide in 2020.

In Norway, the Taycan accounts for 70% of all Porsche models sold with Porsche sales there more than doubling.

It has received around 50 international awards, mainly in its principal markets of Germany, the US, the UK and China.

The new rear-wheel drive Taycan also holds the Guinness World Record for the longest drift with an electric car, driving sideways non-stop for 42.171km.
