Rivian launches configurator this month

EV manufacturer Rivian’s configurator goes live on November 16 for pre-order holders with general access from November 23.

Under the title “It’s time to build an Electric Adventure Vehicle exactly the way you want it”, Rivan says customers choose the colour, interior, battery range, wheels, tyres – even adding a camp kitchen.

Updates are included on new features, pricing, equipment packages and more.

A Launch Edition – a special, limited configuration marking Rivian’s configurator launch – is also offered, with R1T ute deliveries starting in the US in June 2021 and R1S (SUV) deliveries in August 2021.

Rivian says deliveries will be based on the original pre-order date, delivery location and configuration.

Signed with special interior badging with an optional Launch Green colour choice, Launch Edition is equipped with a 482km plus pack and premium Adventure Package, while upgraded wheels and tyres can be selected at no extra cost.

Adventure and Explore equipment packages use the same drivetrain and provide quad-motor drive, independent air suspension, active damping and electro-hydraulic roll control.

A panoramic all-glass roof, vegan leather seating, wifi and 4G capability for over-the-air updates are included in both. A 1000-lumen flashlight is in the driver’s side door.

Adventure also has as standard the off-road upgrade with a reinforced underbody shield and on-board air compressor, a premium interior (heated and cooled seats) and the Rivian Elevation 360° audio system with removable Bluetooth speaker.

In the R1T, the Adventure Package adds a powered tonneau cover, Rivian’s Gear Guard remote monitoring system and panels can lock together to double as a camp table.

The Explore Package sport interior features matte black finishes with heated seating, plus a surround sound audio system.

For the R1T, a 643km plus pack will be available starting in January 2022.

A longer range R1S with both five and seven-passenger seating will be announced following production start along with a 402km range, lower priced R1T and R1S.

Rivian Driver+ is standard on every vehicle, offering hands-free driving assistance along with safety features and over-the-air updates.

With the system engaged, the EV will automatically steer, adjust speed, and change lanes on command.

Driver+ is powered by two redundant compute platforms, 12 ultrasonic sensors, 10 exterior cameras, five radars and high precision GPS. An interior camera monitors driver alertness.
