The stations provide up to 120kW of power, adding about 270km range in 30 minutes.
Tesla says the new chargers are among the most powerful available to Tesla users.
Ken Buckingham, chairman of Hilton Nominee which owns the site, says the superchargers mean people using the cafe can charge while they stop,Stuff reports.
He says the new superchargers are convenient for travellers and that Tesla contacted them in June 2018 asking to use the premises.
There are now eight Tesla supercharger sites across New Zealand, the Washdyke site completing the Christchurch to Queenstown route.

Does this mean Tesla will not be opening a Supercharger station in Geraldine as previously planned?
