Subaru debuts electric STI concepts in Tokyo
Subaru Corporation and its motorsport subsidiary Subaru Tecnica International (STI) have revealed two new electric concept models at the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon show, January 14-16.
They are the STI E-RA Concept and the Solterra STI Concept.

The first is based around the STI E-RA electric race car being developed under STI’s near-future, motorsport-focused STI E-RA Challenge Project launched to gain experience with new motorsport technologies for the carbon-neutral era.
The concept name E-RA stands for “Electric Record Attempt”. After testing the STI E-RA throughout 2022, this model’s first goal will be to challenge the six minutes 40 seconds lap time in the time attack category at Germany’s Nürburgring circuit after 2023.
Its system will deliver up to 800kW by utilising Subaru’s all-wheel drive technology, the four electric motors producing 800kW.
The Solterra STI Concept is based on Subaru’s all-electric SUV the Solterra, which had its world debut last November.
It features a roof spoiler, cherry-red under spoilers, and other special parts.
“As we await the arrival of the fully-electric, all-wheel drive SUV Solterra to New Zealand, the reveal of these two new electric Subaru STI concept cars is exciting and shows Subaru Corporation and Subaru Tecnica International’s future focus is firmly on electrified technologies,” Subaru of New Zealand managing director Wallis Dumper says.
Subaru of New Zealand is working with Subaru Corporation to confirm a timeline for Solterra to arrive in New Zealand.
The Solterra launch will start by the middle of 2022 in some international markets, including Japan, the US, Canada, Europe and China.
