Subaru prices electric Trailseeker from $68,990, adds second variant

Subaru has priced the Trailseeker for New Zealand and added a second variant to the line-up, with the electric SUV opening at $68,990 and stock arriving from October.

The range now covers the Trailseeker AWD at $68,990 and the Trailseeker AWD Touring at $72,490, both excluding on-road costs. Subaru confirmed the model for New Zealand in June in Touring form only; general manager Paul Mallard says the entry car was added after customer feedback.

“Kiwis asked for more options and we listened, so we are delighted to be bringing in two Trailseeker variants to New Zealand,” Mallard says.

Both variants use a 74.7kWh CATL lithium-ion battery and dual motors producing 280kW combined, with a 0-100km/h time of around 4.5 seconds. That makes the Trailseeker the fastest production Subaru ever sold in New Zealand.

Range separates the two. The Trailseeker AWD is rated at up to 533km on the WLTP cycle, while the Touring drops to 488km on its 20-inch alloys, so the more expensive car gives away 45km. DC fast charging peaks at 150kW, taking the battery from 10 to 80% in around 30 minutes. Subaru’s specification lists a 2kW AC charging cable with a standard wall plug, and does not state the onboard AC charger’s maximum rate.

The car sits on the e-Subaru Global Platform with the brand’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, Dual-Mode X-Mode with a Grip Control function, and 211mm of ground clearance. Driving Trajectory Prediction Control pre-positions torque based on the driver’s intended path. Boot space is 609 litres in the AWD and 595 litres in the Touring, with integrated roof rails standard.

What the money buys

Both variants get a 14-inch touchscreen, a 7-inch driver display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital rear-view mirror, dual wireless chargers, heated front and rear outboard seats, a heated steering wheel, and dual-zone climate control. Subaru Safety Sense, the Driver Monitor System and the full Vision Assist suite are standard across the range.

The Touring adds 20-inch alloys, leather-accented seats in blue and black, ventilated front seats, a panoramic glass roof, Advanced Park Assist with four cameras and 12 ultrasonic sensors, a 10-speaker Harman Kardon system, and a 220-volt, 1,500-watt vehicle-to-load outlet.

Mallard says the first allocation has already sold out ahead of pricing being confirmed. “It is a real coup for us to be receiving the Trailseeker AWD, with up to 533km of WLTP range and a strong price point, especially compared with competitor EVs,” he says.
