Suzuki e VITARA set for 2026 New Zealand launch
Suzuki will launch its first electric vehicle (EV) in New Zealand from the second quarter of 2026, with the arrival of the e VITARA marking the Japanese brand’s entry into the local EV market.
The e VITARA represents Suzuki Global’s first full-electric vehicle and will arrive in New Zealand fresh from production at the company’s Gujarat plant in India. The model is being distributed to over 100 countries and has been named as a candidate for the 2026 World Car of the Year.
New Zealand will receive two variants of the electric SUV. The 61kWh two-wheel-drive model offers an estimated range of up to 430km on a full charge based on the WLTP combined cycle, while the 61kWh ALLGRIP all-wheel-drive version provides up to 396km of range.
The e VITARA is built on Suzuki’s new HEARTECT-e platform and features a bevelled body shape designed for aerodynamic efficiency. The model includes unique 18-inch black alloy wheels in a five-spoke design and a black front grille that opens and closes to assist battery cooling efficiency.
Safety and interior features
Standard safety technology includes autonomous emergency braking, rear cross traffic alert, traffic sign recognition and parking sensors. The model features a distinctive safety alert sound for pedestrians that mimics a jet taking off.
Interior features include heated front seats, heated steering wheel, wireless charging and customisable ambient lighting on the front door panels and centre console. The climate control system uses a heat pump that recycles heat efficiently to warm the cabin while conserving battery power for driving range.
“We’re really looking forward to the arrival of the e VITARA and there’s no doubt this outstanding new SUV will appeal to New Zealanders and their sense of adventure,” says Aaron Wales, National Sales Manager of Suzuki New Zealand.
“It will be an excellent addition to our range of affordable and fun small cars and SUVs.”
The e VITARA marks a significant milestone for Suzuki in New Zealand, representing the brand’s first electric offering for consumers who have been considering the switch to electric vehicles. Final specifications for the New Zealand market are yet to be confirmed.
