Tesla delivers 90,650 EVs in second quarter
Shares in Tesla have skyrocketed since it reported 90,650 second-quarter deliveries.
It exceeded Wall Street expectations as Tesla sales held up in the COVID-19 economic downturn better than most automotive firms, CNBC reports.
Tesla was expected to deliver about 72,000 vehicles during the last three months, a consensus of analysts surveyed by FactSet reveals. Bloomberg expected 83,000 vehicle deliveries in the second quarter.
Tesla’s deliveries fell by just 4.8% from the same quarter last year even as auto sales globally, especially in the US, crashed after COVID-19 restrictions impacted.
Many of the big auto companies had second-quarter sales drop more than 30%.
Tesla has not revealed which models and areas had the best sales.
It reported combined deliveries of 80,050 Model 3s and Model Y SUVs, and combined deliveries of 10,600 of Model S and Model X EVs.
Tesla also didn’t compare production between its Shanghai China and Fremont California factories.
Meanwhile, construction has accelerated at its Berlin Gigafactory, likely to begin Model Y production for the European market in 2021.
