Tesla limits car colours
Tesla says it’s reducing car paint ordering options from seven to five colours to streamline manufacturing.
Metallic silver and obsidian black metallic will only be offered as off-menu, limited edition colours at a higher price.
Colour options still available are solid black, midnight silver metallic, deep blue metallic, pearl-white multi-coat, and red multi-coat, some of which Tesla already charges extra for.
Only solid black is included in the base price for a Tesla vehicle.
Tesla chief executive officer Elon Musk tweeted the change “Moving 2 of 7 Tesla colors off menu on Wednesday to simplify manufacturing.
“Obsidian black & metallic silver will still be available as special request, but at higher price.”
The change affects Model S, Model X and Model 3 vehicles.
“We occasionally adjust pricing and available options to best reflect the value of our products and to streamline our manufacturing operations,” a Tesla spokesperson says. “The adjustments made are the latest example of that. The best way for customers to check the current pricing and packaging options is to refer to the online configurator.”
