Tesla seems to have several prototypes of its upcoming Model 3 “Highland” affordable EV at the Southern Hemisphere Proving Grounds near Queenstown.

In fact, photos posted on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum by user MarkusNZL indicate the Model 3s have joined possibly two Cybertrucks for final winter testing and various other Tesla EVs at the grounds.

That’s reported by media including InsideEVs and Teslarati.

InsideEVs speculates the “affordable” Highland Model 3 might be revealed at the Cybertruck delivery launch event later this year, possibly September.

Earlier reports suggest the new Tesla Model 3 has a revamped interior and exterior, the latter including taillights with vertical indicator lights.

The “Highland” model reportedly has fewer parts required in assembly so should be easier to make and have a lower starting price.

“Based on images shared by Tesla enthusiast @CybertruckNZ, it would appear that the entire Tesla family, as well as some upcoming vehicles, have gathered at the winter testing site,” says Teslarati.

It adds the “Project Highland” update is expected to include some of the most significant changes to the Model 3 since deliveries began in 2017.
