Tesla Model Y may be out sooner

Tesla might start Model Y production sooner than first thought.

Suppliers are reportedly being told to make the Model Y crossover’s parts now, six months earlier than initially intended.

Tesla says the Model Y is likely to start production around mid-2020.

The EV company does seem to be showing indications that the Model Y will be released sooner than expected, Teslarati reports.

“Release candidates of the upcoming all-electric crossover are being spotted in increasing frequencies across the United States, both in Tesla’s home state of California all the way to states in the East Coast. Varying trims of the vehicle seem to be undergoing real-world testing as well,” Teslarati says.

It says suppliers were reportedly notified to expedite the production of parts for the Tesla Semi, though no specific date or timeframe was shared for the long-hauler’s components.

Tesla chief executive officer Elon Musk revealed the Model Y in March, with deliveries expected to start in late 2020, the base variant starting handovers in late 2021.
