Tesla produces 3m EVs

Tesla has produced three million EVs so far, with Gigafactory Shanghai celebrating its millionth – a Model Y – on August 13.

Model Ys and more Model 3s have started arriving in Australia and New Zealand, the three million milestone mentioned by Tesla and its chief executive Elon Musk.

“Congrats, Giga Shanghai on making millionth car! Total Teslas made now over 3M,” Musk tweeted.

Model Y deliveries in the US began on March 13 , 2020, but Model Y deliveries to Australia and New Zealand have taken more than two years, a ship arriving at the end of July with more shipments due soon.

Tesla chair Robyn Denholm told the 2022 Annual Shareholder Meeting that Tesla aims to produce 20 million EVs annually by 2030.

This year, Tesla intends producing 1.5 million EVs after nearly reaching the million-mark last year.

Production plants in California and China are running at full capacity, with Berlin achieving a 1000 Model Y weekly production run a few months ago and Tesla’s Texas factory expected to reach a similar output later this year.
