Tesla tops UK’s 150% EV sales rise
EV sales are rising fast in the United Kingdom, with Tesla leading the charge.
Its Model 3 has done well there, and Tesla and EV sales generally have progressed in a COVID-19 afflicted world while sales of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles have dived.
June UK vehicle sales show they went up 125,000 from a COVID hit May (145,000 in June compared with 20,000 in May, but that’s still a 35% decrease over the same period in 2019.
Electric car sales, though, went up 261% in June and 158% year-to-date, Electrek reports.
Tesla delivered 2517 Model 3 vehicles in the UK during June, sufficient to make it the best-selling EV there and ninth best-selling overall.
An EV grant and tax incentives benefit UK EV sales, says Electrek, adding Tesla is also angling for business vehicles and fleets, which could become very popular in the UK because of tax breaks.
