Tesla ute under US$49k

Elon Musk
Tesla’s electric ute is expected to cost under US$49,000.
That’s according to Tesla chief executive officer Elon Musk on Ryan McCaffrey‘s Ride the Lightning podcast.
Decribing the ute as “kind of like a Blade Runner truck”, Musk says it will look “pretty sci-fi” and unlike a normal ute or pick-up truck.
He adds it won’t appeal to everyone, particularly those who want a truck with a similar style to that produced during the past 30 years.
The ute is likely to be revealed later this year with Musk adding it’s expected to be available in several versions which could cost more depending what’s in them.
It’s also reported to come with power outlets for heavy duty tools.
During the hour-long podcast, Musk talks about Tesla’s other models and how the company has largely overcome “relentless negativity”.
He says the momentum towards electrification and sustainability is really gaining momentum with a number of cities planning to ban gasoline vehicles.
Musk also sees autonomy as the future with Teslas geared for eventual full autonomy, something he says will make them more valuable.
