Toyota teases future Corolla — electric?

image

Toyota has released first images of a new Corolla Concept ahead of its Tokyo Motor Show debut later this month, signalling a fresh design direction for one of the world’s best-known nameplates.

While technical details are undisclosed, a charging port on the front wing indicates the concept is electrified — either a plug-in hybrid or a battery electric vehicle. Toyota has not confirmed the powertrain.

The four-door saloon adopts a smooth, aero-focused silhouette with a streamlined roofline, flush door handles and a subtle duck-tail rear spoiler.

The nose features clean, minimalist surfacing that is likely to influence future Corolla styling globally. The saloon body contrasts with the hatchback format familiar to New Zealand buyers, though the front-end look is expected to inform any production derivatives.

Full details — including powertrain, range and production intent — are due when the Tokyo Motor Show opens on October 29.
