TransNet visit charges up EEA Conference delegates
About 10 EVs from a rubbish truck to a Tesla Model S intrigued more than 30 delegates from the Electricity Engineers’ Association (EEA) Conference in Auckland during a visit to TransNet NZ’s East Tamaki headquarters.
The company provides a large range of products to the electrical distribution, transmission, rail, OEM and wholesale industry and includes EV charging and smart electricity storage.
Guests were shown the EVs – an Envirowaste rubbish truck, Jaguar I-Pace, old and new Nissan Leafs, Hyundai Ioniq and Kona, Kia Niro and the Tesla – along with TransNet’s 150kW Micro Grid set up (includes 544 solar panels) and an associated 30kW/130kWh smart storage system which controls it.
TransNet also has electric forklifts, light and motion sensor operated LED lights, and a growing EV fleet – plus a few staff EVs, all of which can charge up on site.

Power supply and use features on a screen display in the company’s foyer.
The EEA Conference continues at the SkyCity Convention Centre until June 27 and includes sessions on EVs and charging technology along with a view of how the electricity industry will look in 2050.
